Strong Big Science panel at the Öresund Industrial Exhibition

Great energy, valuable insights, and clear business advice – our panel discussion, “Doing Business with ESS, MAX IV and Other Research Facilities”, brought together industry leaders and regional representatives to explore how Swedish companies can access the high-tech Big Science market.

The Öresund Industrial Exhibition in Malmö

The Öresund Industrial Exhibition took place over two days starting on 21 May and is aimed at the Nordic manufacturing and process industries. It was well attended, with strong interest in key themes like energy transition, green tech, digitalisation, supply chains, cost efficiency, and skills development.

Our session

Our featured session was “Doing Business with ESS, MAX IV and Other Research Facilities.”

The panel highlighted several key success factors for companies looking to enter or grow within the Big Science market. To win larger contracts, it is often essential to build consortia, collaboration is key. At the same time, there are real opportunities for SMEs, as many procurements involve low-volume, high-precision production that may not be of interest to larger firms.

The panel also agreed that focus is crucial – companies need to understand the dynamics of the Big Science sector to succeed. Relationships play a vital role too; staying one step ahead and visiting research facilities like CERN can open doors. Another practical strategy is to secure a framework agreement or become a subcontractor to a company that already holds one.

Many thanks to our excellent panel
