Big Science Sweden and Examec meet with RUN in Kristianstad

How can investments in research infrastructure create new opportunities for industry, innovation and regional growth? These were among the topics discussed when Big Science Sweden and Examec were invited to meet with the Regional Development Committee (RUN) in Kristianstad on 4 June.

Big Science Sweden was invited to share results and insights from long-term initiatives aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of companies in Skåne. Amelie Hallin, External Relations Manager at Big Science Sweden, presented how connecting Swedish industry with world-leading research facilities creates opportunities for companies to develop, grow and compete internationally.

Examec’s Big Science journey

Joining the discussion was Big Science Sweden member company Examec, represented by Mats Ohlsson, who shared the company’s Big Science journey. From taking its first steps through early regional initiatives linked to ESS and MAX IV, Examec has grown into a supplier to the international Big Science market.

A growing ecosystem

The establishment of major research facilities such as ESS and MAX IV has helped create a growing Big Science ecosystem in Skåne. These facilities not only strengthen the region’s research and innovation capacity but also open new opportunities for Swedish companies to access international markets and collaborations.

Through these investments, Sweden has strengthened its position as an important Big Science nation, creating value and opportunities that extend far beyond the facilities themselves.

Collaboration for growth

The meeting created valuable dialogue between policymakers, companies and organisations on how continued collaboration can strengthen innovation, industrial development and Sweden’s role within the international Big Science community.

“When world-leading research facilities, industry and decision-makers come together, we create opportunities that reach far beyond the facilities themselves. Big Science is not only about research; it is a driver for innovation, business development and international growth,” says Amelie Hallin, External Relations Manager at Big Science Sweden.
