Qualisys wins CERN order for advanced motion capture system

Qualisys, a company based in Gothenburg, has secured an order from CERN for the delivery of a high-precision motion capture system, designed for tracking autonomous robots in radiation environments.

CERN got in touch

CERN initially contacted Qualisys about a year ago regarding robotic applications in environments where human access is limited. The project involves monitoring autonomous ground robots and flying devices operating in areas with radiation.

Qualisys met the technical specification

“We had detailed technical discussions with CERN, and now they have decided to use our system,” says Mathias Bankay, Key Account Manager for Qualisys in Switzerland.

The order includes capture cameras

The order includes 16 motion capture cameras capable of tracking both position and orientation with high accuracy. “We provide both the cameras and the software used to track markers on the moving objects. All hardware and software are developed in-house,” says Bankay.

This is a one-time installation with training, but Qualisys hopes this will be the beginning of a broader collaboration with CERN.
