Industry opportunities in focus at FCC Week 2026
Industry, CERN and national stakeholders gathered in Helsinki during FCC Week 2026 to discuss collaboration opportunities linked to the Future Circular Collider. The event highlighted the important role of industry in developing the technologies needed for one of Europe’s most ambitious future research projects.
Johannes Gutleber (CERN), Catarina Sahlberg (Big Science Sweden), Lassi Noponen (Business Finland), Jussi Manninen (VTT), Ari Kokko (Copenhagen Business School) and moderator Riccardo Crescenzi (London School of Economics and Political Science).
The event brought together representatives from academia, industry and innovation organisations from across Europe to discuss how Big Science can drive technological development, competitiveness and economic growth. The session was opened by Sakari Puisto, Finland’s Minister of Economic Affairs.
Strong Swedish participation
Big Science Sweden was pleased to see strong Swedish participation at the event. Swedish companies Savantic AI Lab and EKAnalys were on site to showcase Swedish expertise and explore future collaboration opportunities.
Catarina Sahlberg, Director of Big Science Sweden, participated in a roundtable discussion on collaboration, innovation and industrial engagement in the FCC project alongside representatives from industry, research and innovation organisations.
The discussion highlighted the importance of cooperation between research infrastructures, industry and public stakeholders to maximise the societal and economic impact of future scientific projects.

The FCC project represents one of the most ambitious scientific and technological initiatives currently under consideration in Europe. Beyond advancing fundamental research, it also offers opportunities for industrial participation, technology development and knowledge transfer.
“The FCC project demonstrates how large-scale research infrastructures can create opportunities far beyond science itself. By bringing together industry, researchers and public stakeholders, these projects drive innovation, strengthen competitiveness and create new opportunities for international collaboration,” says Catarina Sahlberg, Director of Big Science Sweden.
