AMday Big Science Technology 2025 – connecting people, challenges, and solutions

On 30 September, eight of the world’s leading research facilities joined Nordic researchers and high-tech companies in Lund for AIMday Big Science Technology 2025, focusing on Green Tech Solutions.

AIMday Big Science Technology

This Danish–Swedish event was jointly organised by BigScience.dk, Big Science Sweden and the EU-funded INPROCAP project. It brought together eight of the world’s leading Big Science facilities – including CERN, EISCAT, ESS (European Spallation Source), European XFEL, FAIR/GSI, Fusion for Energy and MAX IV — uniting expertise from Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Sweden and Denmark.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in in-depth discussions on real technical challenges in an open, intense and solution-oriented setting. Experts met face-to-face, sparking innovative ideas and potential collaborations that might never have emerged otherwise.

Collaboration

AIMday discussions can lead to pre-studies, collaborative R&D projects and, in some cases, the start of long-term partnerships. This year, the facilities submitted 24 questions, which after the discussions at AIMday resulted in 20 potential pre-studies.

“We are very pleased with the day,” says Catarina Sahlberg, Director of Big Science Sweden. “There was an open, solution-oriented atmosphere and a warm sense of community that Big Science gatherings often bring.”

Lunch seminar at Lund University

With international experts in Lund, we took the chance to inspire students. A full house gathered at the Faculty of Engineering, Lund University, for a lunch lecture on careers in Big Science. A big thank you to Pradeep Ghosh (FAIR) and Sandra Muhr (CERN) for sharing their knowledge and experience.
