Supply of an ELT Large Mirrors Washing and Stripping Unit FCFT-PR111822-FRI

Request for information (RFI) to identify companies that are interested in and capable of manufacturing a unit to wash and chemically remove (strip) the coating of the ELT large mirrors: • convex M2 mirror, 4200 mm outer diameter, Zerodur®, ~3500 Kg. • concave M3 mirror, 4,000 mm outer diameter, Zerodur®, ~3300 Kg. • flat M5 mirror (2700 x 2100 mm elliptical), SiC, ~400 Kg. • flat M5 Commissioning mirror (2200 x 1800mm elliptical), Zerodur®, ~480 Kg. The design of the unit is being developed in house by ESO, after which the contract will be placed for its manufacturing according to the detailed drawings and specifications (built-to-print contract with assembly and fit verification). The RFI will be released in Q3/2024 to potential suppliers in the ESO Member States and Chile. Based on the outcome, ESO plans to issue the Call for tender in Q3/2024. The contract is expected to be awarded in Q4/2024, to the Bidder, which has submitted a fully compliant Tender and offers the best value for money for ESO taking into account the quality and price of the offer.
