The Square Kilometre Array (SKA)

The Square Kilometre Array Observatory (SKAO) is undertaking improvements to the perimeter security of its staff accommodation precinct, located in the town of Carnarvon in the Northern Cape. The facility houses personnel supporting the SKA-MID radio telescope operations, and safeguarding both its residents and critical infrastructure is of paramount importance. In line with its security enhancement objectives, SKAO intends to install a high-security welded steel mesh fencing system designed to prevent unauthorised access, resist tampering, and provide continuous and robust protection of the staff accommodation precinct. The fencing must meet stringent physical high-security standards while remaining appropriate for a residential setting and visually compatible with the surrounding environment. To achieve this, SKAO is seeking a high-security welded-mesh solution, such as “ClearVu” or an equivalent approved product, that offers a combination of superior visibility, exceptional durability, and anti-climb and anti-cut features. To facilitate the implementation of this high-security welded steel mesh fencing upgrade, SKAO requires the services of a qualified competent high-security fencing Contractor to undertake the full design, supply, and installation of the high-security welded steel mesh fencing system, including non-motorised and motorised gates, foundations, and all associated civil and structural works. The appointed Contractor will assume 100% design responsibility and must ensure compliance with all applicable South African and international standards, including structural and safety requirements, as well as the contractual obligations under the NEC4 Engineering and Construction Short Contract (ECSC)..
