Protection tunnel H112

The additional steel protection surrounding BATS’s tunnel and choppers is an important safety element of the instrument. It allows to reduce the radiation level close to the tunnel when the beam is distributed. It is positioned all around the tunnel and it covers, as much as possible, the outward surface on the top and on one side. In order to fit tightly around the existing protection, the new steel plates are screwed directly on the old plates and they are assembled together in such a way that the joints overlap. The different plates will have then to be equipped with inserts allowing to fix them in position by means of screws. Because of their weight, they must be equipped with lifting points allowing them to be moved by crane.
