The MAICAL subsystem includes the
turbulence generator (TG) that will be used to emulate turbulences with a spatial light
modulator (SLM) for testing the system under representative on-site conditions in Europe.
The optics included in the procurement are from different types as listed below:
• 7 mounted lenses in barrels (including two lenses with aspheric surfaces and one
lens with a conic surface), 1 unmounted large lens (diam 250mm) and 1 spare,
• Optics unmounted,
o 8 flat mirrors and 2 spares (GC_FM1 and MAICAL_FM4),
o 1 non-polarizing cube beam splitters,
As naming convention, the optics belonging to the AQGC, MAICAL and the turbulence
generator are preceded by the following letters GC, CU and TG respectively.
MAICAL operates over a small field of 12 arcsec and the AQGC covers a larger field of 1
arcmin + 5 arcsec. The TG works in an on-axis configuration.
The overview and exact details of the optical elements can be found in Annex A of this
document. The optical parameters of the TG lens barrels are not available in this draft
document, only the coating parameters are indicated. The missing detailed lens
specification have all spherical surfaces and are assembled in cemented doublets.
