CERN intends to place a Contract for the supply of 848 custom-designed PCIe cards of the model “FLX-155” described in this Technical Specification document.
The FLX-155 cards will be used to read the data generated by the ATLAS detector between 2030 and the end of its operation foreseen in 2042. The cards will be hosted by servers installed in the experiment “counting room” located underground, next to the detector but completely shielded from radiation. The servers will be installed in 19” racks with adequate cooling capacity and will operate in controlled temperature and humidity conditions.
A CAD drawing of FLX-155 is shown in Figure 2; the assembled PCB of an earlier revision of FLX-155 is shown in Figure 3. The main components of the cards are the printed circuit board (PCB), the AMD Versal Premium VP1552 FPGA and the set of Samtec FireFly optical transceivers. The successful bidder (the “Contractor”) shall procure all components listed in the bill-of-materials (BOM) except the three major components listed above which will be provided by CERN, assemble the cards, and perform tests to ensure their quality.
The Contractor shall deliver different types of cards (the “Supply”) that differ solely in the number and type of optical transceivers to be installed.
