The housing is an evacuated tube in which the optical elements of the guide are contained. The housing supports the atmospheric pressure and protects the optical elements from degradation and physical damage. It supports and positions the optical elements and enables their (optical) alignment by means of adjusting screws and view ports. Its design shall fit the positioning requirement of neutron optical elements at atmospheric pressure (installation) and under vacuum (operations).
The housings are a welded steel or aluminium construction
At each end machined flanges are welded to the housing and insure the connection to subsequent housings or other elements.
Along the length of the tube reinforcement elements are positioned to reduce locally the deformation of the housing under vacuum.
Under normal conditions, the housings will be subjected externally to atmospheric pressure and internally under vacuum.
This call for tender is dedicated to the fabrication of the vaccum chamber + supports + covers + all the components for final vacuum test (caps) - primary vacuum 10-2 mbar
Material:
First and last sections will be composed with aluminium (5754) for non magnetic reason
Central section will be made with construction steel (S235 ou S355)
Dimensions
length is around 6 meters – Width and height nearly 1 meter - Total weight is around 2.4 tons
Interfaces
Inside the housing a specific very precise mecanism will be inserted which imply precise machining on the lower surface of the housing following welding process to be vacuum tight (Seals on top and on the bottom)
