The housing is an evacuated tube in which the optical elements of the guide are contained. The housing supports the atmospheric pressure and protects the optical elements from degradation and physical damage. It supports and positions the optical elements and enables their (optical) alignment by means of adjusting screws and view ports. Its design shall fit the positioning requirement of neutron optical elements at atmospheric pressure (installation) and under vacuum (operations).
The housings are a welded steel construction
The following picture shows a 3D view of the guide housing (may not be exact copy of required housings):
At each end machined flanges are welded to the housing and insure the connection to subsequent housings or other elements.
Along the length of the tube are positioned view ports and reinforcement elements to reduce locally the deformation of the housing under vacuum.
Under normal conditions, the housings will be subjected externally to atmospheric pressure and internally under vacuum.
This call for tender is dedicated to the fabrication of 2 housings C8 and C9 – 2 x 10 meters long – Section is around 150 x 300 mm – Material S235 JR – Vacuum tight.
