Research Facility
ILL
The ILL produces and stores a great deal of data during each reactor operating cycle, particularly from research instruments and this volume of data is increasing exponentially, reaching today ~200TiB per cycle (i.e. +400 to +600 TiB of data per year depending on the number of cycles performed).
After a few years of shutdown due to an instrument modernization program, ILL is set to resume a very dynamic production rate over the next 10 years.
As a result, scalability is a key issue for ILL in order to support future needs without having to completely overhaul the existing system after just a few years. The ILL focuses on open-source technologies, enabling the use of commodity hardware with a high degree of flexibility.
We aim to develop and maintain good in-house knowledge of these technologies to guarantee our independence.
