A key aspect of the research program of ITER is the diagnosis of the plasma and the first-wall, e.g. the plasma temperature, density, etc. For this purpose, a large number of different types of diagnostic equipment peer into the ITER vacuum vessel from many different locations; and most of them placed on Port Plugs which are big containers inserted on the vessel big apertures for holding all this equipment in charge of capturing information from plasma and transmitting it outside for processing. In Equatorial Port Plugs of ITER, diagnostic equipment and shielding are integrated together into three cassettes known as "Diagnostic Shielding Modules" (DSM) which, in turn, are attached to the Port Plug structure (it is the container). These three cassettes are essentially stainless steel frames (chassis) where all the parts and components are integrated.
