Development and Supply of a Cloud-based Data Analytics Platform for Paranal Observatory / PR131977-FRI

Request for information (RFI) to identify companies that are interested in and capable of designing and implementing the future Operations Data Analytics Platform (ODAP) for the Very Large Telescope (VLT) and the upcoming Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) of the ESO Paranal Observatory. The ODAP is meant to be a centralized platform for the Observatory performance monitoring, taking over a wide range of functions such as data processing and storage, medium/long term trend analysis, anomaly detection, statistical models' development, alerting, report generation, etc. Data from a variety of systems across most of the departments shall be ingested into the platform to enable complex holistic analysis. The RFI will be released in Q4/2025 to potential suppliers in the ESO Member States. Based on the outcome, ESO plans to issue the Call for tender in Q2/2026. The scope of work includes design and documentation of the Platform based on technical requirements, implementation of cloud services within the design, implementation of chosen exemplar end-to-end use cases, migration of a subset of current data pipelines and products. The contract is expected to be awarded in Q3/2026, to the Bidder, which has submitted a fully compliant Tender and offers the best value for money for ESO taking into account the quality and price of the offer.
