Research Facility
ESRF
The ESRF requires a double crystal monochromator (DCM) to generate a monochromatic X-ray beam with a high energy resolution in an X-ray beam energy range of 12-60 KeV. The DCM will operate in horizontal reflection geometry with two liquid nitrogen cooled silicon crystals, and will have a fixed exit beam. The DCM will be equipped with very high precision motorised mechanics for the micro positioning of these two crystals in several degrees of freedom (typically to within a position of 1 micron for translations and up to 0.2µrad for the more sensitive rotation). These mechanics must have a very high resolution & repeatability, and a very high stability to avoid vibrations and long term positional drifts. All of these mechanics shall be within a UHV vacuum vessel (10-8 mbar). The contractor will design, manufacture, assemble, & test the complete DCM assembly. A high level of competence in micro positioning mechanics & UHV vacuum technology, and previous relevant experience for such requirement is crucial.
