AO 19-09-02: Single backup solution for all ILL storage servers

The purpose of this call for tenders is to provide the ILL with a new backup solution. This solution must provide both a software/system and a storage to back-up our primary storages. The backup storage need to cover both: scientific data, user data and server/workstation data where: · scientific data is the data produced by scientists from their experiences and analyses · User data is the content of user home directories, HPC cluster and application data (including databases) and virtual machines. · Server and workstation data is the main filesystems of servers and working stations. We aim for a backup solution with a capacity of 1.3 to 1.5 PB that will replace several backup servers that are currently in use. The backup software/system need to cover all the data except for those already managed (VMWare virtual machines, Oracle databases, and MacOS workstations). The intention by having a backup of the scientific data is to have a source for recovery in case of loss of the primary storage. For the other data additionally the possibility of taking snapshots/versions of the data is important to be able to recover a certain version of a file. This new backup solution could either be an appliance or a custom solution based on a wellknown file system provided that the proposal includes support, maintenance and formation for this solution.
