The beam diagnostic data acquisition systems at FAIR are based on devices that conform to the
PICMG MTCA.4 standard. Therefore, to port from a particular legacy VME system to the MTCA.4
standard, we need an AMC carrier with two FMC slots and a Zone 3 RTM connector with
appropriate connections to the FPGA.
We selected a product from the Open Hardware Community (OHWR.org) that met all the
requirements. The project is named AFC V4. AFC boards have been used at GSI for many years in
previous versions of OHWR.org. For the required new batch of FMC carriers, we tested and selected
version 4.0.2. The board was successfully tested at GSI in the "RTM" variant. Both the MMC
firmware and the FPGA firmware are fully developed and ready for use. The binaries can be
provided for testing purposes. Due to the dependency of both firmwares on the FMC carrier design
and for compatibility reasons with existing boards, no other board design and FPGA type than the
one specified below is acceptable. Further software/firmware development is not planned for
economic and maintenance reasons.
