ALMA Band 7 Cold Cartridge Assembly Upgrade / CFP-PR137145-FRI

FOR PUBLIC INSTITUTES ONLY The Call for Proposals (CFP) aims to upgrade the legacy ALMA Band 7 Cold Cartridge Assemblies (CCAs) to substantially increase the observing efficiency and scientific capabilities of this receiver band, in line with the ALMA Development Roadmap. The CFP is scheduled to be issued in Q1 2027 to institutes in the ESO Member States. The scope of work includes the design and production of upgraded Band 7 CCAs providing four times the instantaneous Intermediate Frequency (IF) bandwidth of the legacy receivers, together with improved receiver sensitivity, polarimetric performance, and other performance enhancements, as per applicable ALMA System Technical Requirements. The scope also includes an assessment of opportunities to reuse components and subsystems from the legacy Band 7 CCAs to reduce cost, schedule risk, and waste, as well as a contribution to the development of a phased deployment strategy that minimizes disruption to ALMA operations. The agreement is expected to be awarded to the institute (possibly organised in a consortium of institutes) that submits a proposal which is compliant with technical and programmatic requirements and contractual conditions established by ESO. The CFP will permit the participating institutes to propose co-funding, in-kind support, and/or other resource contributions in exchange for Guaranteed Time Observing (GTO).
