6-Slot MTCA Shelves for NGCII

NGCII (New Generic Controller – Generation 2) is the latest version of the ESOdeveloped detector controller for all future ELT instruments and VLT instrument upgrades. The detector controller is a MicroTCA.4 based system. By default, a dedicated MicroTCA.4 shelf is used for each detector with up to 6 AMC and 6 RTM modules in addition to one power supply unit (PSU) and one MicroTCA Controller Hub (MCH). This call for tender is for MicroTCA.4 base systems containing the Shelf, PSU and MCH. While for early systems a 5-slot solution was acceptable, here a 6-slot shelf is mandatory to meet technical requirements. Also, a JTAG Switch Module (JSM) is no longer included in the system. Besides functional requirements, there are also maintenance concerns regarding the number of different field replaceable units that need to be stocked for all detector systems. The technical requirements therefore also contain information regarding the MTCA.4 hardware currently deployed at ESO and a solution that offers common parts with the current install base will be preferred.
