ESS is requesting suppliers to submit tenders in order to conclude an agreement for the the FREIA Chopper Pit & Cave Shielding, a reinforced concrete structure, designed to shield against neutron and gamma radiation at the ESS in Lund, Sweden. Two constructions (the chopper pit, and cave) are required to both restrict access and to lower radiation levels at the ESS site. For a multitude of reasons, including, cost, activation and neutron background, concrete with a surface layer doped with boron, will be employed as the primary shielding medium. Additional gamma shielding made from steel that is not included within the scope of delivery, will then be added to the cave, so the structure must be designed to handle this additional weight. Both structures supported on a cast-in-place plinth to reduce the loading on the hall floor. They are designed access points and service penetrations. The project consists of the following: Products: Chopper pit reinforced concrete, including a cast-in-place plinth, and pre-cast concrete walls and roof slabs Cave structure reinforced concrete, including a cast-in-place plinth, and pre-cast concrete walls and roof slabs Cave access door, manually operated and primarily made from steel Raised internal and external flooring platform Service chicanes at both floor and roof level Option: Internal 1T fully motorized crane Services Design Drawings and calculations: detailed structural design based on the conceptual design provided. Project management: schedule, Preliminary meeting, milestones, Kick-off meeting, design review, FAT, SAT Delivery to ESS site Construction, installation and painting at ESS. Final day for submitting
