The primary function of the NSS cooling systems is to provide clean water with the correct
pressure, temperature, and flow rates to the various systems within a neutron instrument. The
cooling water systems are divided into specific sub-systems depending on the users and layout of
the instruments. Each instrument will have a dedicated sample environment cooling system that
provides water to the sample environment systems, such as furnaces, magnets, cryostats, etc.
The NSS bunker cooling system is a dedicated system that provides deionized water to the neutron
choppers inside the shielding bunker. This cooling system is common for all neutron instruments.
The scope of supply for this tender is a framework agreement that shall cover design,
manufacturing, and testing of the NSS cooling water skids.
ESS also foresee that occasional support with commissioning is needed.
The cooling systems shall be designed as “skids”, i.e. frame mounted assemblies that are easily
transported and installed. The skids shall be complete and include all necessary components such
as pumps, heat exchangers, vessels, valves, controls, and electrical cabinets. The skids shall have
defined interfaces to ESS infrastructure in order to facilitate installation and commissioning.
The section below specifies detailed requirements such as applicable codes and standards,
functional requirements, detailed mechanical and electrical requirements.
