ESS is requesting suppliers to submit tenders in order to conclude agreement(s) for NMX
robotic systems.
The scope of the procurement consists of two robotic positioning systems for the ESS Neutron
instrument NMX (Macromolecular Diffractometer), one for Samples (system A) and one for
Neutron Detectors (system B)
This call for tenders and subsequent agreement(s) are divided into two lots. The scope of work
consists of design, manufacturing and installation on site at ESS of the two robotic systems,
part of the neutron instrument NMX. The two systems are here divided in two separate lots:
Lot A: The Sample Positioner
Lot B: The Neutron Detector Positioners
The sample positioner (A) is used by the instrument to handle the samples being exposed to
the neutron beam, this includes picking a sample holder from a basket, aligning and orienting
the sample to the beam via the use of a camera system and eventually repositioning the
sample into the basket.
The Detector positioner system (B) holds the three neutron detector panels of the instrument
and orients them around the sample to detect the neutrons scattered by the sample.
Both systems are installed inside a concrete casemate (the instrument cave), accessible to
personnel only when the neutron beam is off. The casemate provides a solid concrete floor to
support the two systems.
Tenderers can submit tenders for one lot or for both lots.
