The winding machine is a mechanical device for manufacturing planar superconducting coils made of ReBCO tapes. The tape typical dimensions are 2-12 mm for width, and 50-150 um for thickness. The machine allows co-winding the ReBCO tape with a second tape of possibly different material, such as metal or insulator, and comparable dimensions. The machine allows winding planar coils such as round, racetrack or d-shaped coils. The machine is composed by one coil winder unit, two pay-off systems for co-winding, a mechanical structure providing support and a control unit with a human-machine interface (HMI). The machine is provided with control systems and operator controls, including HMI. The winding tension and speed are tightly controlled. The tension control provides a tension in the range of 1-10 N, and a winding speed up to 10 rpm. The machine features a typical size for is 1.5 x 0.5 x 1.5 m and an estimated weight of 200 kg.
