The main functions of the HNB Drift Duct are:
• To accommodate the displacements and misalignments between the VVCD and the NB
system (the NB Vessels being fixed to the building);
• To be a first confinement boundary of the radioactive material present inside the tokamak;
• To withstand the NB re-ionisation heat load;
• To enable the installation, removal & maintenance of the NB line components and facilitate
the Remote Handling operations;
The HNB Drift Duct is made from the following main sub-components:
The DD Bellows ;
The DD-VVCD Flange (interfacing with the VVCD) including the Support Ring and
Passages for water cooling pipes, Service Vacuum System (SVS), and feedthroughs ;
The DD-VVPSS Flange interfacing with the VVPSS Box including the passage for SVS
pipes ;
The DD Liner ;
Electrical feedthrough for the Thermocouples (TC) and Heating Elements ;
The DD cooling piping in Stainless Steel (SS); the DD cooling piping is located inside the
Drift Duct (this part is mainly brazed to DD-Liner), and outside the Drift Duct (a passage
through the DD-VVCD flange is foreseen);
SVS piping (welded to the DD-VVCD flange and to the DD-VVPSS flange);
The DD Assembly Compression Tool.
