Swedes at CERN connect over cinnamon buns and collaboration

On 17 June, Big Science Sweden, hosted an informal summer get-together for all Swedes working at CERN. Around 30 people gathered in the main building to mingle, enjoy Swedish treats, and connect across roles and generations.

At Big Sccience Sweden we’re already looking ahead to the annual Christmas mingle at CERN in December.

Participants included technical students, early-career professionals, and long-time CERN staff – with one guest even preparing for retirement. The event offered a rare and much-appreciated opportunity for Swedes at CERN to meet in person.

While the primary aim of the event was social, it also provided a valuable platform for informal knowledge sharing and community building. In addition to the Swedes, a few representatives from CERN’s Procurement Service also joined.

“Having strong ties between the Swedes on site makes us better equipped to take advantage of the opportunities CERN offers – both for individuals and for Swedish industry,” said Fredrik Engelmark from Big Science Sweden and Industrial Liaison Officer (ILO) to CERN.

Also present during the event was Ebba Jakobsson, Communications Officer at Big Science Careers.
