Big Science Morning • Current and future upgrades at CERN

Make a note of the date, and start Thursday 3 September with Big Science Sweden. The event will include presentations from two key staff members at CERN, who will be telling us more about current and future procurement needs.

The event will be held both physically in Lund and virtually, and you will have the chance to present yourself and your company. Please register below.

Big Science Morning is an informal breakfast meeting where companies that are already, or are interested in becoming, suppliers to research facilities, are brought up to date about current developments within the Big Science field. Participants can also discuss opportunities for collaboration. 

The meeting will be available virtually, but you are also welcome to join us in Lund at Ideon Science Park, Scheelevägen 15 in Lund (level three).

More information about the High Luminosity LHC

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the most recent accelerator constructed on the CERN site. The LHC machine accelerates and collides proton beams, but also heavier ions up to lead. It is installed in a 27 km circumference tunnel, about 100 m underground. The LHC design is based on superconducting twin-aperture cryo-magnets which operate in a superfluid helium bath at 1.9 K.  High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) is a project aiming to upgrade the LHC collider after 2020-2027 in order to maintain scientific progress and exploit its full capacity. By increasing its peak luminosity by a factor five over nominal value, it will be able to reach a higher level of integrated luminosity, nearly ten times the initial LHC design target. To this aim, HL-LHC is exploring new beam configurations and new advanced technologies in the domain of superconductivity, cryogenics, radhard materials, electronics, and remote handling.
